Good Deal...Bad Guy:

Hi,
⠀
It's Phil.
⠀
I'm slightly paranoid about taking on new clients and I think that's a good thing.
⠀
A loooooooooong time ago, when I was completely green, I took on a client. Let's call him Mr. X. Made a deal to float his monthly management fee and even the advertising to show him how confident I was our campaign would succeed.
⠀
The man was a total and complete suspect. This was known from the start. You could have asked almost anyone in a 50m radius of where he worked and they would have all told you: 'yep, this dude is not a great guy to do business with'.
⠀
But that didn't matter to me. I was just the guy doing his marketing.
⠀
I do his advertising, he's all happy, everything is going swell. He is getting all new clients from our campaign, Meanwhile Mr. X. is singing my praises. He couldn't be nicer.
⠀
A week before the promised payment date, I called him to check in... no answer.
⠀
Turns out my client took the new clientele, made his money, and didn't pay me...and went M.I.A.
⠀
Never heard from him again. Lovely guy.
⠀
Moral of the story? You can't make a good deal with a bad guy. Cost me about $2000 to learn that. Never forget it.
⠀
It's the reason why I talk to every potential client before we start working together. To make sure we're a good fit. And if we're not? I gladly send back any money that was paid already or not even take them on in the first place.
⠀
Life's too short to deal with people like this.
⠀
Talk soon,
⠀
Phil
⠀
